Spencer

On a beautiful Friday afternoon in July, Spencer achieved his goal and attended his brother’s wedding. He walked down the aisle with his parents, sat through the ceremony wearing the same suit as the groomsmen and posed for pictures with the wedding party.

All of this was kept as a surprise from most of his family, including his brother, and all of the wedding guests.

Spencer lives at a home operated by Niagara Support Services, and to know him is to understand what an enormous accomplishment this was!

His full-time staff, program supervisor, mother, behaviour consultant and the rest of the staff team where Spencer lives spent months planning for this day – from secret suit fittings to doctor’s appointments, getting backup wheelchairs ready, and learning how to do his hair just the way Mom hoped for – everyone pulled together to achieve this important moment for Spencer and his family.

NSS employees - Chelsey, Graeme and Mario – all looked amazing in their wedding outfits and were so organized and prepared to transition Spencer to the ceremony.

Being able to see the impact of the work we do everyday through the expressions on Spencer’s family and friends as they saw him walk down the aisle was truly inspiring.

We are so proud of Spencer for achieving his goal, and thankful to our NSS staff who helped him to prepare for this very special day!
